The challenge

BarterUp began as a small enhancement engagement — the client approached Tibura to make modifications to an existing React application. As discussions progressed, it became clear the real challenge was far larger than improving a few pages.

The client had a vision: a sustainability-focused marketplace that would encourage reuse, reduce waste and promote a circular economy by letting people exchange goods and services without relying solely on money. A compelling idea — but the hard questions were unanswered:

  • How should bartering work digitally, and how should goods and services be valued?
  • How can trust be established between users, and exchanges facilitated safely?
  • How can NGOs, charities and orphanages participate and benefit?
  • How can sustainability become a core part of the experience — not a label on top?

The challenge wasn't simply technical. It was transforming an early-stage idea into a viable digital product.

What we did

Tibura worked through a structured product-discovery process, focused on both the social impact and the commercial potential of the platform — circular-economy enablement, community-based exchange of products, services and skills, social-impact participation for NGOs and charities, and trust and transparency between participants. That work turned a broad vision into a clearly defined marketplace model.

As the concept matured, the engagement expanded well beyond code. Tibura shaped the product identity end to end — product ideation, business-workflow design, user-journey mapping, marketplace strategy, brand identity and logo, UX design, application architecture and platform development — into one cohesive experience built around sustainability and community.
